Scope and Contents

The materials in this collection were generated by Muhlenberg College and its affiliated individuals and organizations [those of students, faculty, staff, administration, and community affiliates]. They were collected by Dr. Baldrige.

Each series contains a variety of formats: programs, newspaper clippings, correspondence, catalogs, monographs and periodicals, and more.

Biographical / Historical

Dr. Edwin R. Baldrige, Jr. (1931-2014) received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College in 1952, and his Master of Arts degree and Ph.D. in 1954 and 1963, respectively, from Lehigh University. After serving in the U.S. Army, he began his teaching career at Muhlenberg College in 1957, where he served as Professor of History for 40 years until his retirement in 1997. He was a charter member of the Faculty Club and served as its president from 1966 to 1982. Baldrige received honors including the inaugural Frederick Augustus Muhlenberg Distinguished Service Professor; the Alumni Association's award for Distinguished and Exceptional Service to the College; and the Trustees Award for Continuing Service to the College.
