Scope and Contents

The materials in this collection are made up of four series pertaining to the records of Eastern PA Trans Equity Project.

Series I contains materials pertaining to the creation/initial plans of the organization, events, education materials, marketing, and workshops focusing specific topics of interest to trans folk and their allies.

Series II consists of miscellaneous media such as infographics, videos, and posters/signs.

Series III includes materials attributed to the Lehigh Valley chapter of the Renaissance Transgender Association and all its iterations. Including, but not limited to the Northeastern Pa. Transgender Alliance (NEPTGA), as well as the current independent chapter Lehigh Valley Renaissance. The group is a non-profit, non-political, educational and social transgender support group founded and designed to educate and support transgender people and those who care about them without prejudice.

Series IV contains objects such as t-shirts, buttons, and a magnet.

Biographical / Historical

The Renaissance Transgender Association, previously known as the Renaissance Education Association, was founded in the mid-1980s in Pennsylvania. It served as a non-profit, non-political, educational and social transgender support group founded and designed to educate and support transgender people and those who care about them without prejudice. This was accomplished through a variety of educational programs, social activities, group support meetings, and providing access to resources for transgender communities.

The Lehigh Valley/Pocono chapter of Renaissance (also called the Northeastern PA Transgender Alliance [NEPTGA] or Lehigh Valley Renaissance) is a support group for transgender individuals that serves the Lehigh Valley and surrounding counties which formed in July 1995. In 2016, it became affiliated with Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center, and in 2019 became sponsored by Eastern PA Trans Equity Project.

Biographical / Historical

Founded in 2019, Eastern PA Trans Equity Project’s mission is to empower transgender and nonbinary people while building community and advocating for social justice. Headquartered in the Lehigh Valley but serving transgender Pennsylvanian residents in 25 counties, they provide legal name change assistance, housing assistance, food vouchers, mutual aid, peer-led support groups, referrals, education, and mentoring.
