Scope and Contents

From the Collection: This collection of fifteen binders has served the Band in a reference and preservation capacity. Some are dedicated to the Band's three longest-serving directors, Martin Klingler, Bert Meyers, and Ron Demkee. Others detail member-specific information, including member lists, instrument inventories, and death notices.The binders include newspaper clippings, correspondence, programs, published accounts of the Band and its history, and photographs.

This binder contains apx. 75 photographs of Meyers and the Allentown Band, ca. 1910-1975. There are letters to and from Meyers and his family, Martin Klingler, and others. Other contents include programs from Willow Grove Park; an editorial by Meyers entitled "The Boy of Today and the Great Bands of Tomorrow"; inscribed photographs of Lucien Calliet, Dale Evans and Roy Rogers, Jimmy Durante, Skitch Henderson, Lawrence Welk; the "Golden Deeds" award, presented by RIchard Nixon in 1974; clippings and papers relating to Meyers's retirement and death; various certificates and awards.
