These mid-twentieth-century, unbound scrapbooks, which are organized mostly in reverse chronological order, primarily contains Call-Chronicle and Morning Call newspaper clippings about the Allentown Band.

Biographical / Historical

Joe Oberecker (1922-2006) was born in Allentown, the son of Joseph and Bertha (Fasching) Oberecker. His music journey began with his membership in St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, Allentown. He continued to stay involved in the Lehigh Valley music scene for many years. He was a member of the Musicians Local 561 for 50 years, a clarinetist in the Allentown Band for 30 years, and a member of the Bud Rader Orchestra for 45 years. He was also a member of the Sharps and Flats of Allentown, an 83-member ensemble that grew out of an informal gathering of musicians and their wives. Additionally, he was a clarinet instructor at Henry John’s Music Center in Allentown.
