Scope and Contents The Allentown Band and Muhlenberg College, longtime Lehigh Valley institutions and partners, embarked on a collaboration to gather members’ oral histories. The partners creating this collection included members of the Band, students, and faculty in an integrative learning course involving archival science and documentary fieldwork. Scope and Contents Approximately 175 of these photographs are framed and hanging in the headquarters of the Allentown Band at 1914 Greenleaf St, Allentown, PA 18104. The digital files are stored at Trexler Library, Muhlenberg College. In 2019, the photographs were digitized thanks to a grant from the Council of Independent Colleges. Scope and Contents This collection contains eight twentieth-century scrapbooks compiled by members of the Allentown Band. They contain newspaper clippings, programs, letters, photographs, and other ephemera relating to performances, guest performers, and conductors, and provide a window into the role the Band played in the local and national music scene.
Scope and Contents This collection of fifteen binders has served the Band in a reference and preservation capacity. Some are dedicated to the Band's three longest-serving directors, Martin Klingler, Bert Meyers, and Ron Demkee. Others detail member-specific information, including member lists, instrument inventories, and death notices.The binders include newspaper clippings, correspondence, programs, published accounts of the Band and its history, and photographs.
