From the Collection: Series 1 consists of the files maintained by Muhlenberg librarians relating to the theft, the efforts to return stolen books, Shinn's legal case, and accompanying awards and publicity. Series 2 consists notes and articles written by Dick Cowen '53, a reporter for the Morning Call newspaper.

Provenance

Richard "Dick" Cowen, Muhlenberg Class of 1953, was a reporter for the Morning Call newspaper in Allentown. Because of his ties to Muhlenberg and his local beat, he reported in-depth on the James Shinn case. The papers in this series came to Muhlenberg's archives over the 1990s and 2000s.
