Scope and Contents

From the Collection: This collection consists of four published books and numerous pamphlets and newspaper publications authored by Emanuel Hertz; a folder of correspondence addressed to him; and two scrapbooks featuring hundreds of newspaper clippings relating to Lincoln and Lincoln memorabilia, as well as some pertaining to Hertz's political career. It also includes a lock of hair purported to be clipped from Abraham Lincoln's head after his assassination, with accompanying provenance.

The bulk of the letters are addressed to Hertz and pertain to speaking engagements/invitations and appointments. Includes two letters from Ida Tarbell, one of which addresses a misunderstanding between her and Hertz regarding leadership of the Lincoln Fellowship.

The three earliest letters (1885) are addressed to Abraham Lincoln's law partner, W.H. Herndon.
