Scope and Contents
From the Collection:
This collection consists of four published books and numerous pamphlets and newspaper publications authored by Emanuel Hertz; a folder of correspondence addressed to him; and two scrapbooks featuring hundreds of newspaper clippings relating to Lincoln and Lincoln memorabilia, as well as some pertaining to Hertz's political career. It also includes a lock of hair purported to be clipped from Abraham Lincoln's head after his assassination, with accompanying provenance.

Accompanied by note in Hertz's hand: "A few strands of Abraham Lincoln's hair 'cut off by me own hands (Elizabeth Keckly, Mrs. Lincoln's seamstress) the day after he was assassinated' and presented by Mrs. Keckly to Jesse W. Weik - and to me (Emanuel Hertz) by the Weik Manuscript Corporation, the present owner of the Weik Collection of Lincolniana, on the 12th day of December 1933."
